SELECTION PROCEDURE AT JU MC

Selection procedure in accordance with the Policy of Open, Transparent and Merit-Based Recruitment Process

  1. Following Article 176 of the Jagiellonian University Statute, the contest procedure is announced by the Jagiellonian University Vice-Rector for Medical College at the request of the Dean or the Head of a non-departmental, inter-departmental or joint unit. Information about the competition and its outcome, together with the reasons for it, is published in the Public Information Bulletin on the subject pages of universities and on the minister’s responsible for science and higher education within 30 days before and after the contest, respectively. | JU and JU CM PIB website | Ministry of Science and Higher Education website.
  2. Information about the competition is also made available in English on the European Commission’s website on the European portal for young researchers dedicated to the publication of job offers for researchers within 30 days before the competition. | EURAXESS platform
  3. The contest is conducted by the relevant faculty Committee or a Committee appointed by the council of the relevant non-faculty, inter-faculty or joint unit.
  4. The Committee shall evaluate the applications submitted. Formal evaluation concerns: fulfilment of statutory and regulatory requirements, and information resulting from the contest announcement, as well as evaluation of the completeness of the submitted documents. Substantive evaluation concerns: assessment of the candidate’s achievements and qualifications adequate to the expectations of the position.
  5. The Committee may:
  • interview the candidate,
  • ask the candidate to deliver a presentation/lecture/seminar,
  • request an evaluation of scientific, teaching and organizational achievements from an external reviewer, representing the same or related scientific discipline.
  1. The Commission sends to the candidate by e-mail feedback on the result of the evaluation, together with the justification and instruction on the possibility of appeal. If this opportunity is exercised, the candidate in the content of the appeal should indicate the claims that constitute the basis for challenging the result of the evaluation carried out by the Committee, and provide reasons for them. | template – appeal form for the candidate.
  2. The result of the evaluation is presented by the Committee to the Dean or the Director of a non-departmental, inter-departmental or joint unit. Please note that the decisions of the Contest and Appeals Committees do not guarantee employment.
  3. If, in the opinion of the Committee, no candidate meets the requirements for employment in a given position, the Committee requests that the competition should be closed. In this situation, the Dean or the Director of a non-faculty, inter-faculty or joint unit informs the Council of the relevant unit of the result of the candidates’ evaluation and forwards the committee’s proposal to the Vice Rector of the Jagiellonian University for the Medical College.
  4. The Dean or the Director of a non-faculty, inter-faculty or joint unit shall request the Council of the relevant unit to express an opinion on the employment of a candidate identified by the Committee for an academic teaching position, providing justification for his/her selection.
  5. After obtaining a positive opinion of the Council of the appropriate unit, the Dean or Director of a non-faculty, inter-faculty or joint unit shall apply for employment to the Vice Rector of the Jagiellonian University for the Medical College. In case of a negative opinion of the Council of the appropriate unit, the Dean or Director of a non-faculty, inter-faculty or joint unit may apply to the Vice Rector of the Jagiellonian University for the Medical College with a request to employ the candidate or to close the competition.
  6. The Center for Personnel Affairs of the MC shall make available the information on the results of the competition with the justification.
  7. Candidates participating in the recruitment process can get feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of their application on the basis of the application.
